Open-source software in Lusid's B Box

B Box is built with open-source software, and we're grateful to the people who make it. The full list, with each licence, is in About → Licences inside B Box and in the notices file below.

Downloads for B Box 0.15.1

Each new version of B Box gets its own set here when it ships.

The 0.15.1 notices file was written before this page. Where they differ, this page is current: the offer below and the contact address replace the ones in that file, and the services B Box uses are listed in the privacy policy.

LAME MP3 encoder

B Box uses LAME 3.100 to make MP3 files when it rips a CD. LAME isn't built into the program: it ships as its own library, libmp3lame.dll, under the GNU Library General Public License, version 2 or any later version. The licence text is in the notices file above.

Using your own LAME build

You may change LAME, build it yourself and have B Box use your build. BUILD-LAME.txt above gives the steps. The Microsoft Store installs B Box in a protected folder, so instead of swapping the file there, set the Windows environment variable BBOX_LIBMP3LAME to the full path of your libmp3lame.dll, then restart B Box. It checks that variable first.

Written offer

For at least three years after we last ship a version of B Box, we'll provide the LAME source for that version to anyone who asks at rhorn@lusidproductions.com or by post to Lusid Productions LLC, PO Box 368, Black River Falls, WI 54615, at no charge beyond the cost of sending it.
